Gun Violence in my Community

I personally have never experienced gun violence but many of my peer and family have. Guns were created to protect us. Lately they have been doing more damage than good. Over 30,000 americans have perished from gun violence alone. As the years go on that number continues to grow. Without gun violence life itself in America would be different in the United States. I wouldn’t be scared when I go outside to go to school , Or anywhere in general. I care about gun violence very passionately because I have lost too many family members and friends due to it. I also care about gun violence because on day it can be me that dies because of it or my brother, sister, mom. I don’t want to loose my loved ones because of a weapon that is supposed to protect us

Media and It’s Impact on our Son

Did you know that data shows that men are more likely to engage in gun violence? I believe that media and culture has a negative impact on gun violence in the United States. I believe that video games, movies, and television shows does influence violent behavior in children, teens, and adults. I feel this way because children who play these types of games and watch these movies usually commit a violent crime/action.

I feel that media and culture has influenced gun violence in the United States because kids that love to play violent video games and watch violent movies usually commit a violent crime/action. According to the video ¨The Mask You Live In¨ states how boys are pressured to living up to the ¨standards¨ of being a man in the society that we live in today. The so called standards presented in the video were things like,¨Teaching how to fight, not expressing your emotions, and to act strong and tough.¨ Boys in the video have said when they are suppressing their emotions and living up to the ¨standards¨ the start to have negative thoughts. Those thoughts include things such as fighting, drinking, shooting others for the fun of it, and even suicidal thoughts.  These pieces of evidence  proves how when one is going through the pressure to live up to the standards of being  a man that society wants them to be it damages them internally. To live up to be an ¨Ideal Man¨ in 2017 is very difficult and stressful so its best that we be ourselves and not to let people and their opinions change who you are.

In conclusion media has a negative impact on our children and future generation of the world. With media it pushes these qualities that everyone is supposed to have. So for anyone reading this continue to be yourself and don’t every change that.

I almost got killed

One evening, on New Year’s Eve, it was near Midnight. Me and my mom were watching the New Year’s Eve Celebration. Then all of a sudden we heard arguing at her window, so I followed her to see what it is. There were 5 teens. 3 of them had guns and the 2 others didn’t. When my mom peeked out the window. They saw her and me, so one of them points the gun at me while the others are trying to shoot. My mom ducked down and I was still standing, so she pulled me down quickly. While she pulled me down, I saw the bullet pass me head and almost touch me. At that time I wasn’t paying attention and could of got killed. Then my mom reaches for the phone and calls the police. By the time she hung up they ran knows that they might get caught. If I got shot, I would probably have a mark or something. This issue is important to me because a lot of  families become devastated and people want to live and be free and have no violence. And most parents don’t feel its safe for their kids to walk home or school or see something like that and may influence them to think its the right thing to do but its really not at all.

How does gun violence impact my community

Gun violence in my community has a lot of affects. A couple of months ago my sister and I were now going to sleep, all of a sudden, I heard was POW!POW! I was very scared then I looked at the window to see what was it. I’ve had friends killed by a gun and also died.About five years ago my friend she was so small I use to babysit her sometimes , but her father one night was driving on the highway and then two guys came up and ask for a ride before you knew it they shot  him in his head  and the worst thing is after that they lit the car on fire with him inside it was painful , he wasn’t my family but it was really sad. Gun violence affects my community a lot. For example, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights in Brooklyn was the most deadly area for teens, with 31 gun related deaths, but it didn’t stop there, in Brooklyn East New York  and High Bridge-Morrisania in the Bronx, with 16 apiece… El Barrio had the second-highest death rate 18.2 per 100,000 residents. (The New Post article called “NYC’s mean streets claim 200 teens in gun violence over 10 years”).

After a while, innocent children seeing so much gun violence consistently it can have a effect on them they might start to change and also they might want to try it. Today so much little children are dying from a gun. Every day, 48 children and teens are shot in murders, assaults, suicides and suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention. Just imagine how many children can be next. Based on http://www.bradycampaign.org/key-gun-violence-statistics, “2,647 kids die from gun violence, 1,565 children and teens are murdered, 907 children and teens kill themselves, 116 children and teens killed unintentionally, 27 are killed by police intervention, 32 die but the intent was unknown.” Let’s think about others and stop gun violence from affecting our community.

My experience of gun violence

Gun violence affected me a little and my community some what when about two years ago when I came back from a BBQ there was a shooting down the block from my house. However it wasn’t very  deadly  two men were shot and one pregnant lady while they were sitting on a porch. If this never happened I will still be the same because numerous things happen in life for no reason and sometimes we cant do nothing to change it. My family reacted to it like it was a surprise since on my block its not like a daily thing or a once every month its like every year there’s a shooting and my father was used to this like growing up in florida and in somewhat time in New York  he seen a lot so he was used to this like after a couple of weeks some got over it.  Lastly  I care because like say if someone in part of your family got shot you would be said or someone to feel your pain and it happens a lot in this world.

How should the 2nd Amendment be interpreted in today’s climate?

I believe no citizens should have guns even police because sometimes they see black people as a threat and the first thing thing they do is pullout there weapon. The only people who should be allowed to own weapons is Army’s/ military’s and people who live in certain places which they need to hunt. Secondly,  guns that only should be allowed in my opinion is Sniper rifles, pistols and shotguns that does not have effective bullets because nowadays people love automatic or assault rifles and there actually deadly.  Last thing we should do is change the second amendment before it was that all people have the right to own guns now they should change it to No people should bear arms except hunters that have proof that they do and the army  because they protect us and that’s the people we can trust.

Gun Violence Is Affecting Me And My Community

I have never experienced gun violence personally but if there was no gun violence in my community my life would be different because I would go to the park on Saturdays my mother doesn’t send me now because she sees on the news that many crimes happened inside the park. My family is very scared of gun violence in my community. I personally care about this issue because gun violence is affecting my life and my families and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to die well at least not at twelve years old I want to live and get my first car.

Links Between Aggressive behavior and violence in the media

Did you know that data shows that men are more likely to engage in gun violence? I  believe that media and culture has  a negative impact on gun violence in the United States.  I believe that video games, movies, and television shows does influences violent behavior in children , teens, and adults. I feel this way because when you spend time watching and playing violent games/movies you tend to start thinking it’s right.

I feel the media culture does have an influence on gun violence in the United States because kids spend countless hours  on the media when they get home from school, after school kids either go on their phone or tablets or they play video games and whatever we see as kids we do it even if it’s good or bad.

Is gun violence a new world we all live in?

Could you imagine if there isn’t any gun violence in your community? Life would be different if there isn’t gun violence in my community because no one would be scared to go outside and we would not see any teddy bears or candles on the sidewalk, but this thought is just a fairytale. Gun violence will always be a threat in our communities, UNLESS someone tries to make a change and help get our communities in a safer state. As citizens, we some of us made an attempt to stop this violence, some succeed, others not so much. We should try to stop gun violence because if we don’t do anything here would be no change.

Gun violence in my community is mild, they are gun deaths occurring once in awhile, but no matter the cause it always affects someone in the community in a bad way. My community, Canarsie, had a total of “10 shootings in the year of 2016,” (Thetrace.org). This is actually very impressive comparing to other parts of our communities. Many other communities in New York are doing much worse and are putting almost everyone in danger. In Crown Heights there are a total of 36 shootings in the year of 2016″, (Thetrace.org). Without gun violence who knows how many people will be relieved and would  love to go outside with no worries! Might as well put all your worries aside and have fun, but there is still other things to worry about. There are natural disasters and some other incidents that can put you in danger, but death rates decrease. But, like I said, this is just a fairytale. We, the citizens of the United States, can change the way we live. We should be able to speak up, protest, and try to make a change. And I could speak for all that no one wants to see, experience, or be involved in gun violence. When we look at the news, we see all of these gun-related incidents that make us feel sad and sometimes, ….guilty. Imagine what it is like to watch all of the weather and some exciting events occurring in the news. Totally stress-free! To get there we must take action. Anything could help from blog posts to speaking out in the public. According to Daily New York, the latest shooting in my community was on May 25th when a gunman shoots 18-year-old man inside Brooklyn beauty parlor. This scenario may not affect many people, but when a person is injured in a community it always affect at least one person.

Gun violence is a serious problem and affects a lot of people in New York City other than the shooter and the person who was shot. “Of this year’s murder victims, an alarming 72% died of gun violence, officials said. It’s usually around 57%.” (New York Times). There are family, friends, and the community there who are affected because they are apart of the community. The definition of community is group of people living in the same place or having something in common. When the member of the community experience gun violence it affects all. Your choices depend on the future, so make good ones.
